Sustainable remediation -

seeks to eliminate/ control unacceptable risk in a safe and timely manner, whilst mastering the overall environment, social and economic benefits

Contamination -

each chemical substance that: under natural conditions is not present in the environment, was made by man and entered the environment ; is present under natural condition in the environment but in lover concentrate ; is currently at a location, in which is not occurring under natural conditions

non- aqueous phase liquid

lighter ( than water) non-aqueous phase liquid ( density lower than of water)

DNAPL-

higher density- denser than water man-aqueous phase liquid

volatile organic compound

Contamination source -

natural or artificial accumulation of contaminants from which contamination emission to the environment has already occurred or may occur \

Contamination plume -

LNAPL spreading at the groundwater table or dissolved contaminants migrating within groundwater according to the flow gradient

Receptor-

an object (well of waterworks) an element of the environments – biotope (groundwater) or biocenosis (fauna, flora) being at a particular risk, and used as an molicator for the risk analysis purpose)

Post-industrial area (brown field)

abandoned or not fully used area originally designated for any type of economic activity degraded in a degree that limits its further development or returning of economic function

Contaminated area -

area where red contamination is present in soil/ groundwater in a degree exceeding standards for couples environmental and/ or human risk

Degraded area -

area where land/water are contaminated and/or natural landscape and water simulation has been changed in a degree that limits its practical function

Biodegradation -

biochemical breakdown at an organic substance with use of microorganism (enymes) process
